Subject: SUMMARY FOR EARTH 2: EDEN ADVANCE FOR WEEK ENDING AUGUST 18th, 1995

The 'Earth2' mailing list located at 'stargame.org' serves as a host
for Earth2: Eden Advance, a fan club for supporters of Earth2. To get
more information on the club, send a self-addressed stamped envelope to
Earth2: Eden Advance, P.O. Box 733, Westminster, CA 92684-0733 or
visit our web site at
<URL:http://www.umsa.umd.edu/johnw/Earth2/EdenAdvance.html>. You can
also send an e-mail message to <EdenAdvance@stargame.org>, for more
information.

Items are annotated with person(s) who contributed the material or
comment, usually as the one "first to post". Direct comments when
possible to that person especially when requesting the original
material (see section below on reducing list mail). For comments

Earth 2: Eden Advance (E2EA) Topics:
------------------------------------

Kim <Hunter3733@aol.com> of "The New Pacifica Census Bureau" is
collecting demographics of E2EA list members and requests that members
voluntarily provide the following information:
Name, age, sex (yes please is not an appropriate answer), income,
occupation, where you're from, favorite E2 character, favorite E2 story
line and anything else you think is pertinent to the group.

Mark <mjm4@ix.netcom.com> is collecting names/addresses/email
addresses/etc for the E2EA membership database. Please send Mark your
address info.

Mail Blitz: (THIS WEEK, PLEASE WRITE)
-------------------------------------

CAt <domino@cybercomm.net> has volunteered to coordinate the "mail
target of the week" which is now "Steve Spielberg" (note: on Larry King
live, Spielberg said he preferred to be called "Steve"). See Ambin info
below for more full details. CAt's recommendations are to include in
your letter:
Your demographics (especially if you have desirable ones), that you
watched the show loyally, but you had difficulty with the
a.time slot
b. constant preemptions.
That you had may friends who watched but had trouble with the above.
What you especially liked about the show (originality, character
development, etc.) A request/plea to help campaign for E2's continued
existance, or if he can't, to please refer our letters to whoever might
use them best. DO NOT put any mention of E2 on the outside of the
envelope. Sharon <SCHLUHS5@technet.nm.org> and Mike
<mbrando@pe-nelson.com> add you might want to consider *handwritten*
letters as opposed to laser printed.

Anis <bq689@freenet.carleton.ca> suggests using "scrap" paper to
emphasize the "green" aspects of E2 since part of the reason for Earth2
was to create an indirect reminder to take care of the environment.

E2EA Merchandising:
-------------------

Vicky <Seleya8@aol.com> sent out a vote sheet/questionaire on articles
you'd like to see. Please fill it out and return to Vicky (with
INPUT!!! <g>). She notes: "We still need logos including, but not
limited to: The MAMAS, The Rabid Clancyettes, The "VA-1587" in similar
type to the Ops jacket, The Hotel New Pacifica and any further E2:EA
logo concepts."

E2EA List'iquette:
-------------------

Try not to include entire blocks of text in replies, only what's
appropriate. Use general keywords like 'DISCUSSION','HUMOR',etc. in the
subject line in order to let people know what the post regards. Alicia
reserves subject heading 'ALL READ' for list administrative purposes.

The Dream Plane Newsletter:
---------------------------
E2EA Contact: Stacy <WillowNMS@aol.com>

Stacy <WillowNMS@aol.com> says that the October issue of the Dream
Plane will feature Danziger and if you want to see him, you have to
help her pull together enough stuff so she can devote lots of space to
him. So, Stacy offered a challenge:

"I need people to write articles on Clancy Brown that include a
filmography, Danziger's character, etc. We'll certainly re-visit him in
the future (maybe with an interview from our favorite Scoopster!), but
for now I'd like to put together an issue that covers the actor, the
character, etc. So, if you are staring at your July Dream Plane and
wishing to see Danziger, this note is for you!"

Drop Stacy a note if you'd like to write for the Dream Plane.

How do I get it?
----------------

For more info on Earth 2: Eden Advance, and to get a *FREE* copy of the
premiere issue of The Dream Plane, send a business size, or
*PREFERABLY* a 6x9, self-addressed stamped envelope to:

Earth 2: Eden Advance
P.O. Box 733
Westminster, CA 92684-0733

Either size of envelope will require $.55 postage. For fans outside of
the United States, send a self-addressed envelope and include
international return coupons (not affixed). The first issue is free,
subsequent monthly issues can be obtained on a subscription basis: $10
for fans in the U.S., $15 Canadian for fans in Canada, and $20 U.S. for
fans outside of the U.S. and Canada.

E2EA Convention:

E2EA Contact: Julie <Julie@sdsu.edu>

Vivian <vivien@rfx.rfx.com> spoke to Hugo Scales this week and when she
brought up New Pacificon (he loved the name, made him laugh) he said
that while he could not promise Michael Duggan's committment, she
should send him whatever material she has on E2: EA and New Pacificon
to him via snail mail. He also suggested contacting the actors
especially Clancy Brown about attending. He knows that CB still
maintains an interest in the show and what we are doing.

A letter from Michael Duggan was forwarded to many of the E2 web sites
this week, apparently in the hope of multiple postings to all E2
support groups. The text of this letter (with preface from a 'Mike
McQ') and the full text of the M. Duggan letter follow below:

"Michael Duggan asked me to send the following letter to as many
relevant E2 sites and newsgroups that I could find. I work for an
Internet access provider and have a better chance of finding them all
than he does. Please post to as many groups as ight be interested. I'll
look for a few more, but I'm sure you'll get the major ones.

Thanks, Mike McQ"

--- Begin Letter ---

"Dear supporters of Earth 2:

I'm writing this at the request of Michael Duggan, Executive Producer
and co-creator of the series. Michael has read the many letters that
have poured in over the last few months, and as they have become too
numerous for us to respond to, he has asked that I post this as a
response at the various web sites.

Your words of encouragement have indeed been appreciated. The page ad
in Variety this past June was both moving and an exceptional example of
how good television can arouse and mobilize its audiences. Even having
said that, it was a rare event.

In the interest of presenting some facts amidst the the feelings of
disappointment, it should be made clear that many elements come into
play in the survival of a television series. Earth 2 was a mammoth
undertaking. It ranks among the most expensive shows ever produced at
Universal Television. NBC was always a strong supporter of the show.
Unfortunately, the fiscal needs of Universal, were such that creative
elements of the show would have been jeopardized to an unacceptable
level. Unacceptable to the network (NBC) and to the show's creators.
Ultimately, in an attempt to find a solution to its financial concerns,
Universal opted to replace the show's creators and Exec producers with
a new team. NBC found the new direction not to their liking and
decided to cancel the show.

Although Michael is not in a position to offer much hope at this time,
it is not to say that the show is irreconcilibly dead. Universal is in
the midst of a transition. New ownership (Seagrams/ Bronfman) has
brought with it the beginnings of new senior level management (Ron
Meyer from CAA), and possibly new direction and enthusiasm for the
television division. Steven Spielberg has told Michael he was a huge
fan of the show, but to the best of my knowledge, he has not as of yet,
flexed his considerable strength on its demise. Still, a fairly
massive push would be needed to jumpstart Universal, NBC or even
another network to reinstate the series. The letters, postings, ads,
and general word of mouth have gone a long way to keep the show on the
minds of those needing persuasion, and if it is indeed an indication of
what's out there, then it's true that there's a lot of life left in the
hearts of those who loved Earth 2.

Thank you. Long live E2, its devoted fan base, and with them, Devon,
Danziger, and all the inhabs of G889.

Hugo Scales (for Michael Duggan)"

From CompuServe Mickie <mick@earthlink.net> reports from the SF/MEDIA
forum that the Earth2 section (15) will be replaced by "Space: Above &
Beyond", the new Fox series and that the Topic of the Month for
September will be EARTH2. Mickie encourages all E2EA members that have
CompuServe access to increase traffic in this forum to try and preserve
E2 by at least having it combined with another section rather than
dropped.

Michael <mhart@lawsun.law.fsu.edu> says, "The votes are in and have
been counted up! The winner for the Skyad banner is:"
"May the Journey Continue ... Earth 2"
by a narrow margin over Barb's poem, and in a close third was "Our Emmy
Vote for Outstanding Drama goes to Amblin's Earth 2".

Gina <GinaT1000@aol.com> suggests that in order to generate even more
publicity write in advance local newspapers as well as Entertainment
Tonight, Extra, and network morning t.v. programs, such as Good Morning
America. These t.v. shows all cover the Emmys and if we can let them
know in advance that we will be sponsoring the Emmy flyby, perhaps we
can receive some local and national coverage.

Debbie <kssphs2@coop.crn.org> found a place called: Martin
Enterprises, PO 12211, Burke, Virginia, 22009-2211. They have mugs or
tote bages for $12.95 that say: "This time, WE are the aliens!-Earth2."
You can also get the above text on a sheet of stickers (ones you put on
envelopes) for $1.50. They also have the books, if you can't find them,
for $5.99 each plus S & H. Your local bookstore should be cheaper,
@$4.99.

Tim <timh@fozzie.cc.wwu.edu>, who spent a lot of time a various chat
pages on the net wonders: "Why not create a GB&G chat page, much like
you AOLers get to do on Thursday nights. We could live out our favorite
characters there, socialize, and be merry. It would open upmore doors
for the rest of the group who feels left out (sniff) cuz we dont have
AOL accounts... I don't have the know how, the time, or the resources
to set up a chatting area at this time... and our sysadmins won't let
us run scripts from our web pages. But if anybody else wants to do it,
I think it would be great fun!"

Robert <wieser@ix.netcom.com> reports that "Our friends at c|net have a
list of Web sites they call "now on the net" on their show and web site
"www.cnet.com". Most have been featured on the TV show (or will be soon
I hope). and just in the past couple days they have added E2:EA, the
Jessica Steen home page, & E2 - Internet Resources. it is located at
<URL:http://www.cnet.com/Central/Tv/Net/scifi.html>"

The "Scoop" <SCHLUHS5@technet.nm.org> does it again! Sharon reports
that "Brian Steele, the skilled actor who played one of the two
Terrians we came to know and love, has landed a new job. Brian is
playing a monster of some sort in a feature titled Relic, currently
filming. For the role, Brian dons a 100 lbs suit and walks on all fours
in extensions. He is *loving* it!"

Who are we? A couple of people have asked me, "Star Trek has Trekkies,
so who are we?" Well from Kirk Trutner we have, "2fers" (Kirk's little
nickname for us).
